A full crate of LPs is heavy. Dovetailed or metal-cornered crates last; thin-stapled boxes don't survive a move.
Three crates high is the practical ceiling. Beyond that, the bottom box bears more than it should.
Lids keep dust at bay for long-term storage. Open crates make the daily flick-through easier. Most collections want both.
